Some people humble themselves and work hard for people as (cattle and) horses.

有的人，把名字刻入石頭想“不朽”；
有的人，情願作野草，等著地下的火燒。
Some people want to become “immortal” by carving their names into stones;
Some people prefer to be weeds, waiting to be burnt by the underground fire.

有的人，他活著別人就不能活；
有的人，他活著為了多數人更好地活。
Some people, they live, but then the others cannot live;
Some people, they live, to make other people’s lives better.

騎在人民頭上的，人民把他摔垮；
給人民作牛馬的，人民永遠記住他！
Who rides on the people’s back, people will break him down;
Who works hard for the people as (cattle and) horses, people will always remember him!

把名字刻入石頭的，名字比屍首爛得更早；
只要春風吹到的地方，到處是青青的野草。
Who has the name carved into the stone, his name will rot earlier than the body;
Where as long as the spring breeze blows, green weeds are everywhere.

他活著別人就不能活的人，他的下場可以看到；
他活著為了多數人更好活的人，群眾把他抬舉得很高，很高。
Who lives but then the others cannot live, his end can be seen;
Who lives to make other people’s lives better, the masses praise him very high, very high.
