有人問道:
「粵語是否從國語中進化出來?」
Someone asked:
In my humble opinion:
No. Yue first developed in the South around the period of “*Hundred Yue” (means hundred of Yue Tribes) and before the Southern Yue (203 BC-111 BC) was established. Due to frequent wars around Qin’s (221 BC-206 BC)) Central Plains area, livelihood was relatively more stable in the South and their cultures were protected and inherited, it’s been more than two thousand years. Also because of that, Cantonese has preserved many ancient pronunciation, especially in the time of Tang Dynasty (618-907) and Song Dynasty (960-1279). Therefore, scholars generally agree that reciting or chanting ancient/Classical Chinese poetries in Cantonese is more charming.
國語(同為華語,**普通話)實為現代標準漢語。根據清朝(一六四四至一九一二年)的歷史,發展約400年左右,主要由漢滿兩族文化融合而成的。晚清以前,流行語言一直被稱作「官話」,後被正式名為「國語」。
Mandarin (same as *Putonghua) is modern “Standard Chinese”, actually it’s another dialect of Chinese. According to the Qing Dynasty (1644-1912) history, it’s about 400 years development and mainly developed by the integration of Han and Manchu cultures. Before the late Qing Dynasty, this common speech was called “Guanhua”, later officially named as “Mandarin” (means standard national language).
粵語和國語均由人民自然發展出來,實在沒有最美、最好之分,只是粵語遠遠較老而已,理應並存。
Cantonese and Mandarin both naturally developed by people, there’s no the best or the most beautiful, just Cantonese is far older only, both should coexist.

nOTE:
*百越族亦寫百粵族(越粵互通),指華南越地的百越族原住民。
*The Hundred Yue is a loose term denoting various partly or un-Sinicized peoples who inhabited South China and northern Vietnam between the first millennium BC and the first millennium AD. (Wiki)
**於一九五五年,中國共產黨把「國語」更命為「普通話」。
**The Communist Party of China renamed “Mandarin” to “Putonghua” in 1955.
